You were born to move.
I believe we can all be dancers.
And by “we,” I mean all humans.
And by “we,” I mean all humans.
When I say “being a dancer,” I don’t mean going pro or performing on stage.
I mean something much more natural — the dancer that’s already inside all of us.
To dance simply means to move your body rhythmically — to express, to release, to connect. And yet, many of us feel blocked from doing that.
I should know. I used to be one of those people.
For years, I felt shame about expressing emotion through my body. I thought dancing wasn’t something a “masculine man” could do.
Boy, was I wrong.
Boy, was I wrong.
I paid the price — years of feeling emotionally stuck, disconnected, and unable to show up fully in relationships. Cutting off that part of myself was like cutting off access to joy.
That’s why I believe we need to move on from the idea that dance is only for certain people: Certain cultures. Certain body types. Certain personalities.
Because dance is not about performance.
It’s about presence.
It’s a feeling art — something you experience, not something you perfect.
It’s a feeling art — something you experience, not something you perfect.
Just like meditation reveals truth through stillness, dance reveals truth through movement.
It connects the body, the heart, and the mind.
It connects the body, the heart, and the mind.
At Somoloco, one of our deeper aims is to normalize dance in Western culture —
to make it something we all “just do.”
Not for show. Not for approval.
Not for show. Not for approval.
But because it’s human.
Because it’s healing.
Because it’s joy.
Because it’s joy.
So wherever you are — at your desk, in your kitchen, walking down the street — take a breath, put on a song you love, and let yourself move.
That’s where freedom starts.
