You were born to move.
I believe we canΒ allΒ be dancers.
ββAnd by βwe,β I mean all humans.
β
ββAnd by βwe,β I mean all humans.
β
When I say βbeing a dancer,β I donβt mean going pro or performing on stage.
I mean something much more natural β the dancer thatβsΒ already inside all of us.
βTo dance simply means to move your body rhythmically β to express, to release, to connect. And yet, many of us feel blocked from doing that.
βI should know. I used to be one of those people.
For years, I felt shame about expressing emotion through my body. I thought dancing wasnβt something a βmasculine manβ could do.
βBoy, was I wrong.
β
βBoy, was I wrong.
β
I paid the price β years of feeling emotionally stuck, disconnected, and unable to show up fully in relationships. Cutting off that part of myself was like cutting off access to joy.
β
β
Thatβs why I believe we need to move on from the idea that dance is only for certain people: Certain cultures. Certain body types. Certain personalities.
β
β
Because dance is not about performance.
Itβs aboutΒ presence.
βItβs a feeling art β something you experience, not something you perfect.
β
βItβs a feeling art β something you experience, not something you perfect.
β
Just like meditation reveals truth through stillness, dance reveals truth through movement.
ββIt connects the body, the heart, and the mind.
β
ββIt connects the body, the heart, and the mind.
β
At Somoloco, one of our deeper aims is toΒ normalize dance in Western cultureΒ β
to make it something we all βjust do.β
βNot for show. Not for approval.
βNot for show. Not for approval.
But because itβs human.
Because itβs healing.
Because itβs joy.
β
Because itβs joy.
β
So wherever you are β at your desk, in your kitchen, walking down the street β take a breath, put on a song you love, and let yourself move.
Thatβs where freedom starts.
