We want to feel free, alive, and happy

Creating community through dance, music, and special experiences

Somoloco was spawn out of a creative laboratory and collective of explorers, romantics, and silly people that choose to live our loco with freedom and gusto.  We have produced monthly open mics, special music and dance events, immersive theater in Medellin and beyond. We additionally have produce art videos, satires, and support local non-profits in arts. Read more about our Somoloco Manifesto here.

In July 2017, David of Somoloco and another salsa student who fell in love with salsa dancing in Medellin teamed up with local professional dancers in creating the only community of independent dancers in Colombia. The goal? To spread the joy of salsa and latin dance through private dance instruction.

We built a platform run and operate by dancers, for dancers. We now have over 60+ professional dance instructors in our community. To date our community has taught over 20,000 hours of private dance instruction to over 2,000 students.

Our dancers have taught thousands

We teach you holistically how to become a good dancer, including musicality, rhythm, reading your partner, body control, space awareness, style, AND dope moves.

There is no bible of how to teach dance, and the best dancers have learned from dozens of different teachers with unique perspectives.

Using a personalized + adaptive teaching approach, we help you gain self awareness of your own dancing and adapt the instruction as you progress and change.

Why are we doing Salsa Immersions?

David, a Jersey boy who before coming to dance in Medellin had been all up in the worlds of social entrepreneurship and tech, explains how learning salsa in Colombia taught him how to live with joy, flavor, and affection.

“Colombians live with joy, flavor, and affection…it’s lovely. I’ve infused it into my own life and it’s been super healthy. What I’ve learned in the past 2+ years here is that these attributes are not innate to Colombian people. Rather people make a decision, an intention, to live this way together. And salsa is the way to experience it. It’s an embodied practice that can quickly take you from intellectual idea to something alive and real. So I want to share that!”
