HAPPINESS IS MEANT TO BE SHARED

Salsa is more than just dance and music, we believe it’s a lifestyle to be shared. We count our lucky stars everyday to have an incredible community of Colombians and internationals who choose to live with zest, joy and flavor.

Meet Some of Our Dancers

You’ve seen how Latin Americans tend to be more joyful, affectionate, and sensual than the rest of us. How they live with sabor (flavor).

Our community has over 60 professional dancers from diverse dance backgrounds: salsa, bachata, kizomba, tango, hip-hop, contemporary, porro and more. Many compete professionally, and we’re proud to have several World Champions among our team. All our teachers are hand-picked by us, based on their teaching experience, raw dance talent, personality, professionalism, and student reviews.

Luisa
Its art. Its passion. Its freedom. More than just moves, dancing is when I can most be me.
Johan
Dancing opens up our creative side. I love helping people discover their own creative voice.
Marilyn
Get up and dance. Move your body. Enjoy! Salsa is about letting go and having fun!

Meet locos like you

Our community of locos ranges from people from all over the world, of all ages, dance levels, and life experiences. The common thread? They came to live it up on one of our immersions.

A few more locos…

Michael A., Fresno, California, USA

Definitely an amazing trip. The coaches were excellent and very patient. I decided to go with only two months of dancing experience and they were able to help me build massive confidence. There were also students there who had years of experience and you could see how much they learned as well. Highly recommend!

Kaine K, Long Beach, California USA

Somoloco is the greatest way to improve your salsa (or begin your salsa journey) anywhere in the world IMO. They take care of all the organization, find teachers, find accommodations, tell you where to go social dancing and having 3 hours of private lessons per day is sure to get to the next level. All you have to do is bring your energy and desire to learn. I had Johan and Valentina for salsa and Miguel for Acro and I couldn't have asked for better, kinder or friendlier instructors.

Hilda J., New York City USA

The Somoloco's instructors are some of the best and most adaptable teachers I have had the pleasure of engaging! They are warm, friendly, and will challenge you physically while connecting the cultural and emotional significance of the dances. If you are considering going on a group travel experience alone I cannot recommend this immersion and group enough! I am mid-20's year old Black Latin-American woman, that enjoys traveling and I felt completely safe, welcome and warmly invited by every single one of the instructors and in each of the excursions.

Seon L, Hawaii, USA

I am not sure I have enough words to describe how amazing the trip was thru Somoloco. I was skeptical at first and a little hesitant but OMG, I had the time of my life. If you are looking to improve your dancing, experience the culture, meet amazing people and just have the best time, book this trip now!!! I loved it so much that I am probably going to make it an annual thing. Thank you all at Somoloco for creating this awesome experience!! I CANNOT wait to go back!!!!

Chelsey, New York City, USA

Where do I begin!? I am not someone who often says I will return to a place. I am a backpacker, mountain climber, beach hopper, city walker, see it all in a few days and bounce type of person. BUT this experience was different!!! I am excited about returning. It feels like another home now where I am constantly salsa dancing in the kitchen with a lot of like minded travelers from different walks of life.

Oliver, Berlin, Germany

as many have already described before me, from the first contact to the reception to the crucial dance lessons, everything is top notch and excellently organized. Every special request was realized. Absolute bee for the entire crew. I learned to love Colombia, especially the super friendly people. I was lucky enough to learn to dance from these absolute jewels - Salome and Alejandro were a dream. The biggest motivation to go to Colombia again would be to dance with Salome and Alejandro. I have taken both of them deeply into my heart and that makes the trip unforgettable and a success. I hope it doesn't just remain a wish to visit Colombia and Somoloco again, even longer

Dream

Somoloco did a great job of teaching us the fundamentals of salsa calena in one short week! 💃🏼 They are highly experienced in all forms of dance, hands on and friendly. The personable instructors made this a pleasurable journey. I would definitely do another dance emersion with them for certain and recommend to anyone else thinking about it! 😊 I also would highly recommend the graffiti tour of Medellín which is remarkable! Also, visiting the coffee plantation and day trip to Guatape is a must. Plaza Botero, plus museum, cable car 🚠 ride via the Metro is a doable full day trip but worth visiting all. Bring your sneakers 👟as there is lots of walking.

Fit T

The teachers at Somoloco are top tier. They are patient, fun, and take the time to breakdown all new moves. All classes were good vibes. I’d definitely recommend.

Malavika C

I had an amazing week in Medellin, with Somoloco! It was our first time in Colombia, and we felt welcome and well supported by the Somoloco team. They helped us book accommodation in a cute neighborhood, and organized 3 hours of private lessons every single day. The best part was how the instructors accompanied us to fun nightclubs in the city to practice what we had learnt. Alejandra was available to answer any questions about things to do in the city as well. Overall, we felt great about leveling up our dance skills with Salome and Braiyan, and highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling in Medellin!

Laurence E, Binghamton, New York USA

I came to Medellin for an immersion program centered around Salsa; dancing, music, language and culture, and Somoloco is that and so much more. I learned tons from my amazing world-class instructors, not to mention the delicious meals, fascinating history, beautiful mountains, funky barrios, and perfect weather (there's a reason it's called the city of eternal spring). So many beautiful souls there and lots of new friends - locals and people from around the globe. Signed up for two weeks, stayed for three, coming back again for a month. I'm hooked!

Lauriane C, France

Great experience ! I stayed 3 weeks in Medellín and Somoloco. When I arrived I couldn't dance at all (great challenge ahah), and when leaving I was able to dance in any social, with anyone, very happy with the result. The teachers were great (Catalina and Christian), with a great teacher approach, caring and nice. Having the opportunity to go to social with the taxi dancer is a great approach as it helps you to get know the local surroundings very quickly and practice what you learned. Great organization from A to Z.

Emmanuelle F, Paris, France

It was AWESOME!! I had so much fun!! I have spent a month in Medellin because I wanted to learn Salsa and Somoloco organized everything for me! They found me a great place to live, I had amazing teachers,Miguel and Laura, and together we made a schedule for lessons that fitted my own rythme. Thanks to Somoloco, I have learned so much about salsa history and local culture in general. I have met really sweet people whom I am now proud to call friends 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing with me the real sabor of Colombia! I highly recommend Somoloco, truly authentic people. I can't wait to come back :))

Amy J, Tampa Bay, Florida USA

I have been dancing for a number of years but always at an intermediate level. This program was intensive but not overwhelming, with private lessons but in a group setting, making it a fun, social experience. The entirety of the program was scheduled in such a way where you had a great blend of group activities and time to explore, either solo or with new friends. Met some amazing people and most importantly, improved my salsa skills! I would 100% do it again

I had the best time on my Somoloco Salsa Immersion in Medellin. The entire trip was a blast. I continue to tell friends it was an 11 out of 10. Everything from the dance instructors, to the experiences, to the city of Medellin, the tourist attractions. All of it was just perfect. The trip is coordinated very well and as a foreigner in a new country you certain receive the support from the Somoloco staff needed to feel more than comfortable throughout the whole trip. I did a 1 week long immersion and returned from the trip with the confidence to go out on the dance floor and dance salsa.

Katie Zion, New York City USA

I was new to salsa (not new to dancing) and had an incredible time with Somoloco. The teachers and classes were awesome. They came out dancing with us for a few nights which was GREAT (made the social dancing scene a bit less intimidating and allowed us to practice what we worked on in class). The accommodations were super close and convenient to the dance studio. I worked half days while I was there (salsa in the mornings, remote work in the afternoon, activities at night). I was grateful for the downtime midday since this schedule includes more dancing and movement than I’m used to. Medellin was a welcoming, interesting city. I sprinkled some tours etc into my work & dance schedule. Definitely go exploring if you have the energy with all the classes. Highly recommend the experience.

Meredith T, New York City USA

I am a total salsa beginner but have loved the sound of the music and the look of people twirling around the floor seamlessly together for a while. I tried taking one-off classes back home but it was too hard to get the hang of it in a group that was often more advanced than me, and just for an hour every now and then without capitalizing on my gains while they were fresh. I was searching for an immersive experience in a beautiful place that I wanted to travel to otherwise, and am so glad I landed on Somoloco! Almost everyone in the group came alone or with friends, and we got along so well that we ended up spending most of our free time together as well! The instructors were all really friendly, lovely people, so going out to dance with them or getting to know them during activities like a music lesson or a group dinner was a highlight as well.

Amaluit, Woerden, The Netherlands

Salsa lessons, well organized from A to Z. Good information in advance. Airport reception punctually arranged. Well situated beautiful hotel location with extensive gym and (coffee) bar. I didn't know any steps of the salsa dance, so I built up with a lot of patience from the beginning by motivated, always smiling, involved dance teachers. Also received information about the history of salsa as well as detailed explanation about the rhythm (finding the one ;-)) On some of the evenings we practiced in the Salsa clubs with the trusted instructors. Nice contact with the European and American fellow students. Also did fun (intensive) yoga classes. In Medellin you can enjoy good food and walking, there are various excursions to do. My first week was great and actually too short. So this was my second time! I also learned some basic Bachata...

Edwin L, Louisville, Kentucky USA

Even an old(er) dog like me can learn new tricks! This was an awesome experience and really well organized. Three hours a day of private dance instruction for 5 days in a row, seems like a lot but the instructors go at your pace and they are very patient :). Anyone can learn Salsa and you do not need to bring a partner (most people come solo in fact). Encouraged by our teachers, my buddy and I even worked up the courage to dance at some socials. Don’t miss the socials! - They are super fun! I also would highly recommend doing some yoga classes if you have the time and energy.

The program was set up very well and I was quite happy with it, it was a great intro for my first visit to Colombia. The teachers were great too and very talented, I was happy to have met them. Medellin is a beautiful city, I look forward to visiting it again.

Louise, Copywriter, London

I loved every minute of my time with Somoloco Salsa Immersion. I was welcomed into their community and we had a blast! All the teachers I met were super professional and experienced and the mix of private and group classes worked really well. Medellin is one of my favourite cities. There’s so much life. Music oozes from the shops, cars and bars. Some of my best moments were out in Medellin’s salsa spots, dancing until the early hours of the morning with new friends. We also went on a beautiful hike into the surrounding hills and went swimming in waterfalls. This experience gave me exactly what I was looking for: fun, adventure and friends. I felt like I was really living life!

Kelly, Journalist, Los Angeles

If Colombia is on your list of travel destinations, you should do your very best to come on a Somoloco Salsa Immersion. Experiences included their open mic night, a couple hikes to special locations, and of course the private salsa classes with one of their fantastic teachers who came to the apartment and taught my boyfriend and I on my roof. I’m not exaggerating when I say that all these experiences exceeded my already high expectations. I very much recommend Somoloco Salsa Immersion to anyone who wants to discover the best of Medellin alongside a diverse, talented, and just all around fun group of people.

Peter H, New York City USA

It was my first time salsa dancing and so happy I took classes in Colombia. We loved the experience of learning new moves from the masters during the day, and trying them out among the locals at night. I can’t think of a better way to learn! Our morning acroyoga classes were a great way to stretch out after the late nights dancing.

Shaw Y, San Francisco, California USA

Awesome trip with salsa classes in a beautiful studio. A must do for all who want to spend time in Medellin. My friend Bernadette and I wanted to take the classes in the same space with our own instructors respectively and they coordinated this seamlessly. We shared a lot of laughter and learnings together as beginners and were confident enough to attempt dancing at the clubs at night! Thank you to our local friend for the recommendation!

Elodie F, New York City USA

Honestly one of the best vacations of my life. I am so sad to leave! Thank you for my teachers. They are THE ABSOLUTE BEST!
